Nightclub Life Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

The city’s bars and restaurants are not allowed to
operate between 11pm and 6am, although those with outdoor spaces may
stay open until 1am. Across Europe, governments are reining in nightlife
with policies that range from curfews to outright closures, hoping to
curb Covid-19 with a more targeted approach than the blanket lockdowns
of the spring. During the recent surge of Covid-19 cases, people between
the ages of 15 and 49 account for about 80% of those testing positive,
according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
Bars and clubs, with their young demographics, close quarters, and
flowing alcohol, are seen as ripe environments for spreading
coronavirus. Even when allowed to remain open, main venue owners have
struggled to remain viable, with curfews and occupancy limits making
deep cuts into their revenues.
